A Moment to Consider

A Memorial

On Monday, July 24, 2006 Marlene Patterson went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a witness of the
Lord's love and grace to all who came to visit her as she battled cancer.

She was born in 1930 in Vienna, Austria, as the second of three children. She lived in Austria, Czechoslovakia, and
Germany during World War II and the postwar years. In 1957 she came to the U S as a postwar bride where she raised a
family.

In later years Marlene served as a missionary to the Eastern European countries. Living in Bavaria, she traveled extensively.
She began Women's Work groups in many cities, training women leaders for the local church. When she returned to
the states she pastored a church in Daphne, Alabama. She returned to Bulgaria, Romania, and Albania a numerous times
to encourage women in seminars and conferences.

Her book, "In the Claws of the Vulture," is the inspiring story of her walk of faith in picturesque Austria, through the dark
days of WW II under the German Reich, to a new life in America and missionary work in Eastern Europe.

There will be a memorial service at the Spanish Fort Presbyterian church Saturday, July 24th, at 11:00 AM.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Many years ago a Church in Atlanta vetted one of it's senior pastors who had been retired many years. He was ninety-two.

After a warm introduction, He rose from and walked slowly, with great effort and a sliding gate to the podium. Without a
note or written paper of any kind, he placed both hands on the pulpit and then quietly and slowly began to speak....

"When I was asked to come here today and talk to you, your pastor asked me to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever
learned in my fifty odd years of preaching.....I thought about it for a few days and boiled it down to just one thing that
sustained me through all my trials. The one thing that I could always rely on when tears, heart break, pain, fear, and sorrow
paralyzed me. The one thing that would comfort was the song;"

Jesus loves me this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong,
We are weak but he is strong.....
Yes, Jesus loves me...
The Bible tells me so.

When he finished, the church was quiet. You actually could hear his foot steps as he shuffled back to his chair.

There is a new version just for us with white hair or no hair;

Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow.
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.

(CHORUS)
Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,The Bible tells me so.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go.
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.
(CHORUS)
Though I am no longer young,
I have much which He's begun.
Let me serve Christ with a smile,
Go with Him the extra mile.
(CHORUS)
When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song.
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."
(CHORUS)
When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.
(CHORUS)
I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day."

We believe that Marlene is in heaven singing this song and other songs of praise, worship, and adoration. If you want to
be doing the same some day in the future be sure that you have asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. He really loves you.
Tell Him often that you love Him.
