Congratulations! You Have Inherited a House

Congratulations! You Have Inherited a House
By: William Youngman, Professor emeritus, Mt. Vernon Nazarene University

"Congratulations! You Have Inherited a House." What an announcement that is!

But questions immediately come to mind: Who put it in their will, and why? What kind of house is this? Where is it located? And finally we would ask, "Is this for real?"

Yes, this is for real And what a location this house has. It is in a beautiful city best described as a precious jewel. Or, as some would exclaim, it is made of pure gold.

It is in a secure city surrounded by a high wall with twelve gates. A real gated community and yet its gates never need to be closed.

It is a safe city. "Nothing impure will enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful." (Revelation 21:27)

In every sense of the word, it is a perfect city. Those who live there will never experience sorrow, crying, mourning, or pain. In fact, this city "does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light." (vs 23) This is Gods city, the New Jerusalem.

And the really great news is that this is a promised city: "He who overcomes will inherit all this." (vs 7)

Jesus said, "In my Fathers house are many rooms.... I am going there to prepare a place for you. And... I will come back and take you with me." (John 14:2)

Why did Jesus put you in His will? Because "God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

You really do have this inheritance. But how can you claim it? "If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10)

Those that are saved have their names written in the Lambs Book of Life, and only those whose names are written in Gods book will live in Gods city.

You have inherited a house! Will you claim you inheritance?
